Film wardrobe — not personal ownership. For First Man (2018), the production did what the real program did: it got the watches right. OMEGA opened its company archive and supplied period-correct Speedmasters — the ST 105.003 for the training-era scenes, the ST 105.012 for the Moon mission — plus specially made replicas, more than ten period-specific pieces across the production. Esquire detailed the archive collaboration and both references.
The 105.012 is the reference that matters here: it’s the calibre 321 Speedmaster NASA flight-qualified and the watch on the wrists that actually went. Gosling-as-Armstrong wearing the correct 105.012 is the film’s quietest act of fidelity — invisible to almost everyone, and exactly right for the few who’d know.
