Hodinkee identified the base watch — the hesalite-crystal, METAS-certified 3861 Master Chronometer — with mission tweaks: a grey Blue Origin Velcro strap, and a caseback engraved with the wearer’s name, the flight number, and the Blue Origin feather. Omega donated all four crew watches for the flight.
Spotted at: Blue Origin’s NS-16 mission, Launch Site One, West Texas — July 20, 2021. The first crewed flight of New Shepard: Jeff Bezos, his brother Mark, 82-year-old Mercury 13 aviator Wally Funk, and 18-year-old Oliver Daemen — ten minutes to the Kármán line and back.

The wrist
Every member of the NS-16 crew wore a Speedmaster Moonwatch, donated by Omega for the flight — and each one was mission-customized. The base watch was the current hesalite-crystal Master Chronometer with the METAS-certified 3861 movement, worn on a grey 20mm Omega Velcro strap printed with the Blue Origin logo, fastened over the flight suit the way astronauts have worn wristwatches over pressure suits since the 1960s. Each caseback was engraved with its wearer’s name, the flight number, and the Blue Origin feather.
Hodinkee’s coverage named the reference outright; Time+Tide confirmed the configuration down to the hesalite crystal. This one isn’t an inference — it’s documented.
Why it matters
Whatever you think of billionaire space tourism, the watch choice was a deliberate nod to history. The Speedmaster was the only watch flight-qualified by NASA for manned spaceflight, and the crew wore theirs exactly as the Apollo crews wore theirs — over the suit, on a long strap. Bezos may have been a passenger on a fully automated ten-minute hop, but the wrist was doing the astronaut thing properly.
The collector’s read
These four watches are effectively unique — engraved casebacks, mission provenance, never sold at retail. They belong to the small club of presentation Speedmasters whose value is all story. For the rest of us, the takeaway is simpler: the base watch is the standard current-production Moonwatch, hesalite crystal, available at any Omega boutique. The strap did most of the talking.
